I work with Jewish kids who graduate, or drop out, of high school, and then end up living sometimes on the street, and the idea is to draw them back with a safe place where they can work and feel productive and also contemplate and reflect on their lives. What I lacked was the resources: land costs money. Then I found a friend who had bought land about an hour’s drive from the city (I’m in the DC area) where land is cheaper. He discovered that developing his land would take lots of labor and turned to me to help him develop his land into an organic farm. I’ve taken him up on this offer, and slowly we are moving forward. As I’ve been working on this project I’ve found other people with land and looking for labor. My goal is to set up a series of “communes” around the country. Anyone interested should contact me.
